Six2Nine didn’t come from a boardroom. It came from a conversation between three people who were tired of the same thing: an industry that had stopped caring and always chasing unrealistic growth. They wanted to create a work culture that embodies respect, care and kindness. A place you looked forward going to.
Retail had become a machine. Produce more, charge less, move on. The planet paying the price at one end, the customer shortchanged at the other. No one asking the questions that actually mattered: who made this? What did it cost the earth? Will it still mean something in five years?
We thought someone should.
Adrian Gribbin
Co-Founder
Adrian has spent his career in the commercial heart of retail. As CFO and COO of some of the industry's larger operations, he has seen the machine from the inside: the margin calculations, the volume targets, the decisions made in boardrooms where the customer is a data point and the planet is someone else's problem.
He is not bitter about it. He is just done with it.
The retail model, at its worst, is built on extraction — take what you can, sell it for what the market will bear, move on to the next thing. The person who will actually live in the clothes is usually the last consideration, and the earth that produced them rarely features at all. Six2Nine exists because he reached a point where watching wasn't enough.
He wanted to build from the opposite place. Not the margin. The person — a real one, getting dressed on a real morning, reaching for something that has an opinion. Clothes that are loud when the world expects quiet, that take a side, that were made like someone actually gave a f@#k.
That is still the only brief that matters here.
Tony Bertone
Co-Founder and Creative Director
Tony has spent a career passionately learning the craft; working with both international brands and Australian success stories too. Brands that don’t always play it safe.
What they bring to Six2Nine is everything that experience taught them, and one thing it confirmed: that the most interesting work happens when you refuse to design for the market and design for the person instead. A real person, living a real life, who deserves clothes that were made with genuine care.
Every Six2Nine piece passes through that lens. Not just how it looks, but what it is made from, how and who made it, how it feels, and how you move in it, and whether it will still be worth owning long after the season it launched in has been forgotten. In a world of trend cycles and throwaway aesthetics, Tony's work is a deliberate act of resistance. They make things built to be kept.
Jo Ferdinand
Co-Founder
This is the "dynamite" who obsesses over the fabrication of your sleepwear and how our range can be brought to you with the least environmental harm and with partners who understand their own social contract as well. Without Jo many good intentions would simply not eventuate.
Together, they started Six2Nine with no interest in competing with fast fashion on its own terms. That game is rigged, and the planet is the one losing. Instead, they set out to build something smaller, slower, and far more intentional: a brand for people who think about what they wear and why.
